Endlich wird auch darüber geredet:And yet. The Joker's theme - one note held throughout the orchestra, with synthesizers and postprocessing giving it a sickly sound - is probably the best idea I've heard in a film score. It's not terribly interesting, certainly not from a musical standpoint, though it's 'neat.' It'll make great background noise for your D&D campaign (haha!).

In context, onscreen, it's perfect. God knows the writing and direction gave Ledger plenty to work with ('You're crazy.' 'I'm not. No, I'm not' - as if he's remembering a schoolyard bully), but the score has as much to do with audiences' discomfort as any other aspect of the film.Link
